All Dakine Snow Series packs are equipped with a reservoir sleeve, a hydration hose port, and a shoulder strap hose clip.
This sleeve is sewn into a small stash pocket that rests against the back wall of the pack directly between the two aluminum stays and above the top of the back access pocket. All other Snow Series packs feature a reservoir sleeve permanently sewn onto the back wall of the main compartment.
The Dakine hydration system comes equipped with a 39" hose. If this hose is too long for your intended purpose, you can easily cut it to the desired length. First, empty the reservoir of water. Second, install the hydration system in the pack or bag in which you intend to use it. Third, position hose where you want it. Fourth, pull the bite valve from the end of the hose. Fifth, cut the hose to your desired length with a pair of sharp scissors or utility knife. Re-install the bite valve and you have a custom length hose.
Dakine Pack Washing Instructions
We recommend washing your Dakine backpack by hand in cold water with a mild detergent and soft bristled brush. If hand washing is not going to do the trick, the second option is to use a "front loader" washing machine. This is better because it has no center post for straps to catch on. There is still a chance the straps could catch so place your pack inside a pillowcase or mesh bag before washing. Wash your pack in cold water with a mild detergent on gentle cycle, Do not bleach your pack. Hang to dry in a warm but shady place, the sun could change the color of your pack. Switching the pack from inside out to right side out throughout the drying process is the best way prevent mildew. Damage caused by washing packs or bags will not be covered by warranty.
Remove all wax, dirt, etc, with a non oil-based cleaner.
Layout traction pieces on your board first to determine your personal preference. (All Dakine Traction Pads can be customized by spreading the pieces apart, or in some cases removing pieces)
Trace outline of pad onto surfboard with a pencil
Remove paper backing from pad and apply firm pressure beginning in the center and working outwards.
Allow 24 hours for adhesive to bond before use.
First, determine leash length. This should be approximately the same as your board length
Next, determine thickness. 3/16" comp leashes are popular for ankle to shoulder high surf. 1/4" Kainui Team and Kainui are popular for shoulder to 4 feet overhead waves. 5/16” Kaiunui is recommended for double to triple overhead surf.
Determine best length. We add a little extra length to each bag so that your bag and board length should be the same. (i.e. an 8'0" board will fit in an 8'0" bag) If you are in between sizes, go up to the next length. Determine usage. If you are using your bag for protection while on the roof of your car, or in the back of your truck, one of our Daylight or Knit Series bags may be all the protection you need. For airline travel or more everyday protection, choose one of our Regulator bags. For traveling with multiple boards, consider one of our Traveler series bags with wheels.
I've had the best luck getting stomps off a board by using a plastic putty knife from the hardware store. You can be pretty aggressive with them and still not hurt the finish of most boards. Once you get a corner of the stomp up, you can pull on the stomp with pliers, and use the putty knife at the same time. After the stomp is off there will undoubtedly be some residue left on the board. You can use 'Goof Off' or a similar sticker remover for that. Just try it on a small area first to make sure it doesn't discolor the board (under a binding if you are very unsure).
That tool could really use a full page of explanation with images. It is hard to know where to stop sometimes as there are entire books written on tuning. For this explanation, I am going to assume that you know how to file an edge, and just need tips on how to use the tool. There are good general tuning tips on the internet if you are new to tuning and need more instructions on the basics.
Most of the time, all you want to sharpen is the side edge. The tool can be used to file at a 90 or 89 degree angle. If you are unsure use the 90 degree angle. Sharpen by using short strokes from the tip towards the tail. Rotate the file in its holder 180 degrees to sharpen the opposite edge in the same way (tip to tail). Occasionally (once a year) you may want to file the base edge. If you base file too often, you have to remove base material at the same time to keep the base flat. This is hard to do. Anyway, reposition the file as shown in the JPEG Labeled "Base." Tighten the brass screws if needed to secure the file. The base edge can only be filed at a 90 degrees setting. Use the same tip to tail, short stroke procedure. Repeat for both sides and you are done sharpening. A couple of passes with a stone will polish the edges, and you will want to dull back the tips and tails with a stone a little to help initiate and release from turns more easily.
Using a clean rag and wax remover or citrus solvent, remove oil, dirt, and old wax residue from base. Repeat as desired.
Set tuning iron on a low setting; just warm enough to melt the wax. Drip wax over base using a figure 8 pattern. Iron wax into the base, distributing evenly. Allow cooling to room temperature, scrape off any excess with a plastic wax scraper, and polish with a piece of Scotch Brite abrasive pad. The hot wax should last 3-5 days of average riding. Rub on wax is usually gone in a day.
Write down the combination, because you will forget it!Â
While non-leather gloves can be machine washed, leather gloves should be hand washed with light soap and warm water. Gently press out excess water before hanging to dry.
Due to the construction of layered gloves, we don't recommend turning the gloves inside out for cleaning.
When possible, allow gloves to dry out slowly at room temperature, rather than placing them near a heater or in a dryer, as it may damage the materials.
All leather Dakine gloves come with a Nikwax packet to help maintain waterproofing.
Note that Nikwax can occasionally alter the color of the leather, so test it first on a small area before applying to the entire glove.
To apply, spread the Nikwax on the glove like hand lotion, rubbing across all leather areas.
For optimal waterproofing, treat every 30 days, and after washing.
